The end of lazing around...

Heya...today we finally left the house again ;) It was a really busy day, but fun: Went to Frankfurt and Mainz and saw lots of places. Made M&M eat German food...gruene sosse...gulasch...spaetzle...spundekaes...flammkuchen....handkaes (that was fun, cause Min totally didnt liked it ;) I love the faces people make when they try it ;)

Finally Matt and me did some AIESEC talking. Its weird how much energy I have all of a sudden when I talk about it. Yet I have the feeling there is still stuff I have to learn. So much I forgot already. I wish I could turn back the time....but that wont happen. So I have to focus on the future now....

Its time to write applications.

PS: Wonder who will become MCP in Canada!

Graduation kicks a****!!!!

omg omg omg, when I got home there was this letter. And it said "Prüfungsamt" and I knew what it was....it was so exiting, and then I opened the letter with the grade for my thesis and my final grade...and then I realized: I did it! I finally graduated! I cant believe it. Its amazing. Its great and wonderful and I feel like flying.

Other things going on:

- Matt arrived yesterday. Went to Koblenz where Iwona had picked him up at the station. Iwona showed us Koblenz. Finally saw the "Deutsches Eck" at night lol it was freezing. Walked into the light with I and M ;) Christmas Market.
- Drove to Mainz. Went to the Korean Christmas Party. Then to the AIESEC LCM. Matt had to do a roll call ;) hehe...MC! Thats the part I wouldnt like ;) Lots of talking. Discussions about the new EB. Seeing a lot of people I havent seen in a while.
- Went home rather later after dropping of Georg, Annina and her friend from China.

I love having intl. people around me. Its just so inspiring! Makes me want to do stuff and get things done. Its like my main source of energy I think.

Thu:
- Got up at 9 AM. Went to Wiesbaden to have brunch at ALEX in Wiesbaden with Christoph, Annina and her friend from China. Walked around the Christmas Market after that.
- Went to Frankfur to meet PAG. Was good to see her after the way we parted. Went to another Christmas Market (sorry, Matt, I just love em lol), walked around the city. Got home at around 8 PM. Watched TV, wrote a million emails.
- Thinking about the future. Now that I def. graduated I am seriously thinking about the "heading for the future" stage. But what does it really mean for me? Tough one.

I will see....wish me luck :)

An offer

Someone made me a very umm...interesting offer at the last @ conference. I guess I should have taken it, but then there were too many things that made me hesitate. Usually I just DO things if they seem appealing to me. Now that I turned down Korea and the thing on the weekend...I dont know. Am I becoming "too" serious and "too" grown up? Doesnt sound like me...

A ship in harbor is safe -
but that is not what ships are for.

Maybe you were right. I am a bit of a coward. And there was nothing to lose. I guess. So what did I learn: Next time...just go for it.

We will all go to hell!

Read this article, if you are NOT a believing Christian. Its funny, even though its not very helpful if your main purpose of reading is trying to increase your knowledge ;)

So, whats up?

Wednesday: Was sick. Planned to go to LCM, but just didnt feel like it.

Thursday: Bought more stuff for my applications, met Vali at Los Besitos (MZ main station), then Frank at university and then Regine, Jan and Oli at the Christmas Market. Afterwards Regine, Oli and me went to LOMO. Pretty funky. It was so nice to chat with both of them. Sometimes I forget how great my friends here are ;)

Friday: First professional training ever (ppt). Even though it was just two hours. It was great to see Christina work. Its a whole diff. level. I really want to improve my skills. The people were really nice. Yet I felt really akward as they all were married or/and had children.

Saturday: Left for our NC at around 1 PM, got there at 3 PM. Saw the speach of the 3rd VP allround and the 4 MCP candidates. Had about a million rounds of voting, until election was done. Lara is the new MCP of @ Gery. Went to my room at around 5 AM, Talked to my roommate until 7 AM. Slept for AN HOUR!

Sunday: Got up at 8 AM. Went to the plenary instead of my LCP, so he could get some sleep. Was interesting. Then Kat (DA) and me left after lunch. It was cool to have someone in the car to talk too, as I was soo tired.

Summary MV: It was good to go there. So many cool people - people I havent seen in years, people I never met before. The new elects in the heart and ruhr regions are really nice. Where am I heading?

Waiting for answers from the companies. Getting nervous. I hope things work out. Will blog about them as soon as I know.

Cheerio to the world,
jen :)

PS: ZzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZ...so damn tired now :(

Supreme Court rejects Williams' plea

Schwarzenegger denies clemency for former gang leader

SACRAMENTO, California (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to stay the execution of convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, clearing the way for him to die by injection shortly after midnight.

The high court was the former gang leader's last chance to escape execution following a denial of clemency from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger earlier Monday and an appellate court panel rejected a request to stay his execution.

Williams, who co-founded the Crips street gang, is scheduled to die at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday (3:01 a.m. ET) at San Quentin State Prison, near San Francisco.

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who met with Williams earlier in the day, criticized Schwarzenegger for deciding not to spare Williams.

Jackson said Williams, who was convicted of killing four people in two 1979 robberies in Los Angeles, had earned clemency and that Schwarzenegger's decision was about "making politicians look tough, but that does not make it right."

Schwarzenegger announced his decision not to commute Williams' sentence to life in prison without parole shortly after a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, rejected an affidavit from the convict's lawyers that suggested someone framed the onetime Los Angeles gang leader.

California's Supreme Court rejected an emergency request to stay the execution on Sunday.

In their appeal to the 9th Circuit, attorneys pinned their hopes on the declaration of a new witness -- Gordon Bradbury von Ellerman -- a jail trusty detained with Williams in the Los Angeles County Jail from 1979 to 1980.

In the affidavit, von Ellerman said he was the cellmate of another trusty, identified as George "Roger" Oglesby.

Von Ellerman said Los Angeles Sheriff's Department personnel provided Oglesby with documents to aid him in testifying against Williams in return for reduced or dropped charges.

"I was personally aware that Los Angeles Sheriff's Department personnel would often provide information to these inmates so that they could help frame defendants for crimes," he said in the statement.

A statement from Schwarzenegger read: "The possible irregularities in Williams' trial have been thoroughly and carefully reviewed by the courts, and there is no reason to disturb the judicial decisions that uphold the jury's decisions that he is guilty of these four murders and should pay with his life."

Williams, who would be 52 on December 29, spent part of Monday with his attorneys and family members at San Quentin.

While in prison, Williams became an anti-gang crusader, but he has consistently refused to take part in a debriefing with authorities to provide them potentially valuable information about the Crips gangs, said lead prosecutor John Monaghan.

Williams has denounced gang violence and written children's books with an anti-gang message, donating the proceeds to anti-gang community groups.

He said he was trying to prevent young people from making the choices he did, which led to a life of crime and a death sentence.

Celebrities, teachers and anti-death penalty advocates have spoken on Williams' behalf, but Schwarzenegger questioned the sincerity of Williams' conversion to nonviolence.

"Stanley Williams insists he is innocent, and that he will not and should not apologize or otherwise atone for the murders of the four victims in this case," the governor wrote.

"Without an apology and atonement for these senseless and brutal killings, there can be no redemption."

A jury convicted Williams of killing a 26-year-old Los Angeles convenience store clerk in February 1979, shooting him twice in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun while the victim was face down on the floor.

The jury also convicted him of shooting and killing an immigrant Chinese couple and their 41-year-old daughter less than two weeks later while stealing less than $100 cash from their motel.

Both cases were handled in a single trial. Williams was sentenced to death in 1981.

Williams claim of founding Crips is disputed

Gang expert: Crips 'helped destroy the black community'

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- The debate over the imminent execution of Stanley Tookie Williams hinges partly on his claim that he founded the notorious Crips street gang -- then renounced a criminal life in a quest for redemption.

Though Williams, who is scheduled to die Tuesday, maintains his innocence in the four 1979 murders that landed him on death row, he takes credit for founding the Crips a decade earlier with another teenager, Raymond Washington, and says he now regrets his role.

Prosecutors question the 51-year-old Williams' sincerity in repudiating the Crips. Experts say the convicted killer and his supporters have also overstated his role in founding the gang -- which has a reputation for violence -- as a way of emphasizing his claim of redemption.

"Actually, everybody but Tookie gives Raymond Washington credit for starting (the Crips)," said Malcolm Klein, an emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Southern California who has studied gangs since 1962.

"Instead of founding the gang, which is what Tookie claims, what you're really talking about is emerging as a dominant figure," Klein told Reuters. "Because he is such a dominant, violent, articulate bad guy, rather than leadership you're talking about influence."

Latino gangs first surfaced in Los Angeles after the turn of the century, historians say, and black gangs may have formed in the 1930s.

Blacks moved to Los Angeles in large numbers during World War II and those gangs gained strength until the mid-1960s, when youths were drawn to the civil-rights movement and radical political groups like the Black Panthers.

Williams as anti-hero

By the end of that decade, the Panthers had faded and 15-year-old Washington stepped into a power vacuum, creating a gang he initially called the Baby Avenues. The origins of the name "Crips" are hazy, though one theory attributes it to a disabled member known as a "cripple" to his comrades.

"The Crips were already well established when Tookie came on the scene," said retired Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. and gang expert Wes McBride.

"(That he created the Crips) is part of his mystique that his supporters are using to try get him commuted. It gives him a stature as an anti-hero kind of person that has now turned his life around."

McBride says Williams, known by his middle name Tookie or the nickname "Big Took," helped build and solidify the Crips. The gang caught the imagination of the media after killing the son of a prominent black attorney and entering the popular culture through Hollywood films.

The Bloods emerged as rivals to the Crips in the early 1970s and the two gangs have feuded ever since.

McBride dismissed as "nonsense" claims by Williams that he started the Crips to defend his neighborhood against other gangs.

Williams has become a cause for anti-death penalty activists, including rapper and former Crips member Snoop Dogg and Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx, who starred in a sympathetic TV movie about the convicted murderer.

His case is one of several that have drawn attention to the U.S. use of the death penalty, as America recently passed its 1,000th execution since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstituted capital punishment in 1976.

McBride said there are now some 200 Crips gangs, though most are only loosely affiliated, with some 25,000 members in the Los Angeles area. Hundreds of people, mostly young black men, are killed each year in California by gangs.

Washington was killed by a rival gang member in 1979.

"There's not a whole lot of difference between the Crips of today and the Crips of yesteryear, only there's more of them," McBride said. "They are more involved in narcotics trafficking than they used to be, but Crips will do whatever they can to make money. Bank robberies, armored car robberies."

"Their legacy is that they've helped destroy the black community," McBride said. "Gangs kill communities just as surely as they kill people."
